The mission of Humanities New York (HNY) is to strengthen civil society and the bonds of community, using the humanities to foster engaged inquiry and dialogue around social and cultural concerns.

To realize its mission, HNY has identified three broad goals with attendant objectives to guide its work over the next few years.

  • To expand the outreach and programming impact of HNY so that all New Yorkers may access the tools and experiences of the humanities.

  • To reach vulnerable communities and other new audiences and to create programming to serve those communities.

  • To expand outreach efforts that build the capacity of communities and organizations.

For more than 40 years, HNY has been committed to fostering, supporting, and advocating for the public humanities across the State of New York. Its work would not be possible without the many organizations that put forward innovative programming and ideas.

HNY celebrates the people whose work and ideas have powered the cultural fabric of New York State. By highlighting them, HNY hopes to encourage current and future leaders in the field to continue their work and use HNY as a partner and a resource for their success.

Your contribution helps HNY to reach more than one million New Yorkers and thousands of organizations statewide. Because HNY is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization, all donations are fully tax deductible unless otherwise noted.

Even if you are unable to contribute financially, please consider serving as an advocate. Please help HNY advocate for a robust future for the humanities in New York State by contacting federal state, and local legislators and letting them know that you enjoyed this program. Thank you!
